We are pleased to announce the opening of the Integrated Spine Care
Center of Excellence, aka ISP (Integrated Spine Practice), located
in the facilities of Orthopaedic Surgery Associates. This center offers
a world class medical facility dedicated to research education and
improved clinical outcomes. The fundamental mission of the Integrated
Care Center is to offer state-of-the-art integration of pain management,
diagnostic studies, and surgical spine care. Traditional spine care
and pain management specialists have merged into a collaborative program
for the comprehensive treatment of back and neck pain sufferers. For
the enrolled patient this offers the many benefits of centralization
of medical care with less duplication of services from different medical
disciplines. The ISP physicians work in a collaborative fashion to
offer the best new technologies in the treatment of back pain.
The integration of pain management and traditional orthopaedic spine
care requires a new focus on critical diagnostic studies and minimally
invasive procedures. A fundamental goal is to individualize the care
plan for each patient, stressing conservative treatment in an outpatient
setting. To complement the care plan, we have made arrangements for
physical therapy, occupational therapy, ergonomic assessment, and biomechanical
training which up to now has been without an integrated focus. We have
brought together the subspecialty of pain management with a new focus
on minimally invasive procedures, both involving surgical care and
nonsurgical intervention. When surgery is indicated, a minimally invasive
procedure will be offered over the more complex procedure such as fusion
or spinal fusion with instrumentation.

Dr. Eidelson with his support team
It is our fundamental belief that patients are currently in search
of more comprehensive medical solutions and can benefit remarkably
from such a state-of-the-art center. At the same time we enlist our
patients to share in the responsibility of their care and education
in order to document the success of their individual care plans. We
seek to enlist a subset of patients who are preselected who fit the
criteria of chronic illness. This would include patients suffering
from spinal stenosis, degenerative disc disease, osteoporosis, failed
back surgery, facet disease, myofascial pain, and degenerative scoliosis.
The staff includes Fellowship trained spine specialists and pain specialists,
as well as certified physical therapists, rehab specialists, occupational
therapists, and a complement of alternative therapies that include
acupuncture, biofeedback, and diet modification.
One of the highlights of this new program will be internet accessibility
between the patients and the caregivers in a way that heretofore has
not been offered in the Palm Beach County region. The center will also
engage in active research and publish our findings worldwide to document
the global successful recovery of this group of patients. This program
will be expanding over the next several months and we take this opportunity
to launch the initial program in early March 2001.
