Integrated Approach to Back Pain

Traditional spine care and pain management specialists have merged into a collaborative program for the comprehensive treatment of back and neck pain sufferers. For the patient, this means that the medical team is driven by the same goals.

The integration of pain management and traditional orthopaedic spine care requires a new focus on critical diagnostic studies and minimally invasive procedures. A fundamental goal is to individualize the care plan for each patient, stressing conservative treatment in an outpatient setting. To complement the care plan, we have made arrangements for physical therapy, occupational therapy, ergonomic assessment, and biomechanical training which up to now has been without an integrated focus. Dr. Eidelson has brought together a group of specialist caregivers who will provide care under his overall direction. When surgery is indicated, if possible a minimally invasive procedure will be offered over the more complex procedure such as fusion or spinal fusion with instrumentation.

It is our fundamental belief that patients are currently in search of more comprehensive medical solutions and can benefit remarkably from such a state-of-the-art center. At the same time we enlist our patients to share in the responsibility of their care and education in order to document the success of their individual care plans. We seek to enlist a subset of patients who are preselected who fit the criteria of chronic illness. This would include patients suffering from spinal stenosis, degenerative disc disease, osteoporosis, failed back surgery, facet disease, myofascial pain, and degenerative scoliosis. Our patients may be directed to pain specialists, as well as certified physical therapists, rehab specialists, occupational therapists, and a complement of alternative therapies that include acupuncture, biofeedback, and diet modification.
